Required for every adult residence visa. AED 300-700 by tier — and booking it in the wrong slot means paying for it twice.
The medical is the shortest step in any residence visa and the one most likely to be scheduled badly. Done in the right slot it adds two days. Done in the wrong slot it adds two weeks, or has to be repeated.
| Tier | Typical fee | Results in |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | AED 300 – 400 | 3 – 5 working days |
| Urgent | AED 450 – 600 | 1 – 2 working days |
| VIP / express | AED 600 – 700+ | Same day, where available |
| Government fees passed through at cost. Fees vary slightly by centre and emirate. | ||
If the applicant is on a visit visa with limited validity remaining, or an employer's onboarding date is fixed, the AED 200 upgrade buys three or four days at the exact point in the process where days are scarce. Otherwise standard is fine.
Screening for a defined list of communicable conditions.
Primarily tuberculosis screening. Declare pregnancy before the X-ray — alternative arrangements apply.
Results go directly to the immigration file. You generally do not receive a paper report to carry.
It is not a general medical. It does not check blood pressure, cholesterol or fitness in any broader sense, and passing it says nothing about your overall health.
This matters and it is easy to miss in a busy centre. Tell the staff before you enter the X-ray room, not after.
Bring to the appointment
Medical results carry a validity window. The sequence that works:
| Step | Then |
|---|---|
| Entry permit issued | Applicant enters or changes status |
| Status resolved | Medical fitness test |
| Results clear | Emirates ID biometrics |
| Biometrics done | Residence visa stamping |
Booking the medical before the entry permit or status change is settled is the most common sequencing error — the result can expire while the earlier steps catch up, and the test has to be repeated at full cost.
A referral is not automatically a refusal. Some findings require further assessment, and outcomes depend on the specific condition and the visa category.
Respond quickly and follow the referral process rather than reapplying elsewhere or delaying. A file paused for assessment is manageable; one abandoned and restarted is not. If this happens, tell us — we will tell you honestly what the position is rather than keep the file running.
AED 300–400 for standard processing with results in three to five working days, AED 450–600 for urgent, and AED 600–700 or more for same-day express where available.
A blood sample screening for a defined list of communicable conditions, plus a chest X-ray primarily for tuberculosis. It is not a general health check and does not assess blood pressure, cholesterol or general fitness.
Generally no — applicants under 18 are exempt. Families frequently pay for tests their children did not need.
Results carry a limited validity window, which is why the test should be taken after the entry permit or status change is settled and shortly before Emirates ID biometrics. Taking it too early risks having to repeat it.
A referral is not automatically a refusal. Some findings require further assessment, with outcomes depending on the condition and visa category. Respond promptly and follow the referral process rather than restarting elsewhere.
Yes, but declare the pregnancy to the centre staff before entering the X-ray room so alternative arrangements can be made.
