Since 11 February 2026, the ICP applies a single unified overstay fine of AED 50 per day across every emirate and every visa type. The old tiered schedule, which escalated over time and differed by category, no longer applies.
The rate is the simple part. The expensive part is the grace period — specifically, working out when it ended.

If your visa was cancelled, the grace period runs from the date your employer recorded the cancellation on the system — not your last working day, not the date on your resignation letter.

The instinct is to settle the fine immediately. That is often the wrong order.
If you have no valid status to move into, paying the fine simply stops the counter for a day and it restarts the following morning. What actually resolves the position is settling and regularising — a status change, a new sponsorship, or a clean exit.

The UAE periodically opens fine waiver schemes with specific dates and conditions. They are genuinely valuable when open, but they cannot be planned around — and waiting for one that may not come costs AED 50 every day.

No. Outstanding overstay fines must be settled before departure, and attempting to travel with them results in being stopped at immigration.
Yes. Every person accrues AED 50 per day independently, so a family of four accrues AED 200 a day, and all of it must be settled before any of them can travel.
Short overstays settled properly usually do not. Extended overstays can attract an entry ban recorded on exit, with risk rising as the period lengthens — which is why acting early materially changes the outcome.
