Exit fee at land or sea ports, Emirates ID late-renewal penalties (AED 20 a day after 30 days, capped at AED 1,000), ILOE and traffic fines, the fees for any renewal, status change or new visa, typing or Amer centre charges, and our own service fee are quoted separately. The short version
- The rate is AED 50 per day per person on ICP's published schedule, the single rate in force since the October 2022 visa reforms.
- Paying the fine is rarely step one. Sequence matters — pay in the wrong order and you pay twice.
- Fines must be settled before you can leave the country, and they block renewals and status changes.
- Send us your passport page or Emirates ID number. We will tell you the exact figure and the cheapest legal route — before you pay anything.
Overstay is arithmetic. Every day you spend deciding what to do costs AED 50, including weekends and public holidays. The only variable you control is how quickly you establish the facts and act on them.

When the clock actually started
This is where most of the money is lost — not in the rate, but in a grace period people assumed was longer.

If your employer cancelled three weeks after you stopped working, you lost three weeks of grace without being told. Never calculate from your last working day — calculate from the date on the system. Our file check confirms it: AED 100 (5% VAT included), credited to your fee if you go ahead.
Why sequence matters more than payment
Paying an overstay fine while you still have no valid status simply restarts the accrual the next morning. The order of operations depends entirely on what you intend to do.

Settle and regularise in the right order
So the clock stops permanently rather than pausing.
What an unpaid overstay blocks
- Departure. You will be stopped at immigration.
- Status change. No conversion to a new residence visa in country.
- New employment. A new employer's work permit application stalls.
- Family sponsorship. Dependants on your file are affected and accrue separately.
- Re-entry. Long overstays can attract an entry ban recorded on exit.
The UAE periodically opens fine waiver or amnesty schemes with specific conditions and dates. They are genuinely valuable when open — but they cannot be relied on as a plan, and waiting for one that may not come costs AED 50 a day.
Overstay payment questions
How much is the overstay fine in Dubai per day?
AED 50 per day, per person, after the grace period ends. ICP's published schedule applies the same rate to residence, visit visa and newborn overstays; it replaced the older AED 25 and AED 100 rates with the October 2022 visa reforms. Some older sources, including an old GDRFA FAQ answer, still quote the superseded figures. Our overstay fine calculator applies the right grace period for you.
Where do I pay an overstay fine?
Through ICP or GDRFA channels, or at an authorised typing centre. Before paying, confirm your recorded status and whether any other liabilities are attached — settling one fine while others remain simply delays the problem.
Can I leave the UAE and pay later?
No. Outstanding overstay fines must be settled before departure. Attempting to travel with unpaid fines results in being stopped at immigration.
Should I pay the fine before finding a new job?
Not necessarily. If you intend to stay, the fine is settled as part of the status change sequence. Paying it while you remain without valid status simply restarts the accrual the following day.
Will overstaying give me a UAE ban?
Short overstays settled properly usually do not. Extended overstays can attract an entry ban recorded on exit, and the risk rises with duration — which is why acting early materially changes the outcome.
My dependants overstayed too. Do they pay separately?
Yes. Each person accrues AED 50 per day independently, so a family of four accrues AED 200 a day. All must be settled before any of them can travel.

Standard grace in Dubai: 30 days after cancellation (some categories get 60, 90 or 180 days; your exact period is shown on your cancellation letter). From the next day, each person accrues AED 50 a day with no cap. gdrfad.gov.ae

Outside Dubai, ICP gives 30 days for most residences (60 with a guarantor or host, 90 for skill levels 1 to 3 and property owners, 180 for Golden, Green and Blue); then AED 50 a day applies. icp.gov.ae

The permit is valid for departure within 7 days; miss it and a new permit is needed, with AED 50 a day from the eighth day. icp.gov.ae
