AED 50 a day since February 2026. Paying is rarely step one — sequence decides whether the clock stops or simply restarts tomorrow.
Overstay is arithmetic. Every day you spend deciding what to do costs AED 50, including weekends and public holidays. The only variable you control is how quickly you establish the facts and act on them.
| Days overstayed | Fine at AED 50/day | Practical position |
|---|---|---|
| 7 days | AED 350 | Settle and regularise — straightforward |
| 30 days | AED 1,500 | Still routine, but act now |
| 90 days | AED 4,500 | Expect scrutiny; regularisation harder |
| 180 days | AED 9,000 | Risk of an entry ban recorded on exit |
| 365 days | AED 18,250 | Serious; specialist handling required |
| Excludes exit-permit charges and fines from other authorities such as traffic, ICP or ILOE. | ||
This is where most of the money is lost — not in the rate, but in a grace period people assumed was longer.
| Situation | Grace | Clock starts |
|---|---|---|
| Residence visa cancelled | 30 days | Day after cancellation is recorded |
| Residence visa expired | 30 days (some 60) | Day after expiry |
| Golden or Green visa | up to 180 days | Day after the permit lapses |
| Visit or tourist visa | Generally none | Day after the visa expires |
If your employer cancelled three weeks after you stopped working, you lost three weeks of grace without being told. Never calculate from your last working day — calculate from the date on the system. We check it free.
Paying an overstay fine while you still have no valid status simply restarts the accrual the next morning. The order of operations depends entirely on what you intend to do.
| Your intention | Correct sequence |
|---|---|
| Stay, with a job offer | Confirm cancellation → settle fine → status change → new work permit |
| Stay, sponsored by family | Confirm sponsor eligibility → settle fine → entry permit or status change |
| Leave cleanly | Settle all fines → exit permit if required → depart without a ban recorded |
| Unsure | Get the file checked first. Paying before deciding often means paying again. |
Expired, cancelled, or still active — people are frequently wrong about which. This determines everything downstream.
Overstay to date plus every other liability attached to your file: ICP, ILOE, Emirates ID, immigration flags. One number, not a series of surprises.
These frequently sit alongside overstay and change the route entirely. See how to check an absconding case.
So the clock stops permanently rather than pausing.
The UAE periodically opens fine waiver or amnesty schemes with specific conditions and dates. They are genuinely valuable when open — but they cannot be relied on as a plan, and waiting for one that may not come costs AED 50 a day.
AED 50 per day. The ICP unified the rate nationally on 11 February 2026, replacing the previous tiered schedule that varied by visa type. Some older sources still quote the superseded figures.
Through ICP or GDRFA channels, or at an authorised typing centre. Before paying, confirm your recorded status and whether any other liabilities are attached — settling one fine while others remain simply delays the problem.
No. Outstanding overstay fines must be settled before departure. Attempting to travel with unpaid fines results in being stopped at immigration.
Not necessarily. If you intend to stay, the fine is settled as part of the status change sequence. Paying it while you remain without valid status simply restarts the accrual the following day.
Short overstays settled properly usually do not. Extended overstays can attract an entry ban recorded on exit, and the risk rises with duration — which is why acting early materially changes the outcome.
Yes. Each person accrues AED 50 per day independently, so a family of four accrues AED 200 a day. All must be settled before any of them can travel.
