Overstay Fine Payment in Dubai
AED 50 a day since February 2026. Paying is rarely step one — sequence decides whether the clock stops or simply restarts tomorrow.
The short version
- The rate is AED 50 per day, unified nationally since 11 February 2026.
- Paying the fine is rarely step one. Sequence matters — pay in the wrong order and you pay twice.
- Fines must be settled before you can leave the country, and they block renewals and status changes.

Overstay is arithmetic. Every day you spend deciding what to do costs AED 50, including weekends and public holidays. The only variable you control is how quickly you establish the facts and act on them.

When the clock actually started
This is where most of the money is lost — not in the rate, but in a grace period people assumed was longer.

If your employer cancelled three weeks after you stopped working, you lost three weeks of grace without being told. Never calculate from your last working day — calculate from the date on the system. We check it free.
Why sequence matters more than payment
Paying an overstay fine while you still have no valid status simply restarts the accrual the next morning. The order of operations depends entirely on what you intend to do.

What an unpaid overstay blocks
- Departure. You will be stopped at immigration.
- Status change. No conversion to a new residence visa in country.
- New employment. A new employer's work permit application stalls.
- Family sponsorship. Dependants on your file are affected and accrue separately.
- Re-entry. Long overstays can attract an entry ban recorded on exit.
The UAE periodically opens fine waiver or amnesty schemes with specific conditions and dates. They are genuinely valuable when open — but they cannot be relied on as a plan, and waiting for one that may not come costs AED 50 a day.
Overstay payment questions
How much is the overstay fine in Dubai per day?
AED 50 per day. The ICP unified the rate nationally on 11 February 2026, replacing the previous tiered schedule that varied by visa type. Some older sources still quote the superseded figures.
Where do I pay an overstay fine?
Through ICP or GDRFA channels, or at an authorised typing centre. Before paying, confirm your recorded status and whether any other liabilities are attached — settling one fine while others remain simply delays the problem.
Can I leave the UAE and pay later?
No. Outstanding overstay fines must be settled before departure. Attempting to travel with unpaid fines results in being stopped at immigration.
Should I pay the fine before finding a new job?
Not necessarily. If you intend to stay, the fine is settled as part of the status change sequence. Paying it while you remain without valid status simply restarts the accrual the following day.
Will overstaying give me a UAE ban?
Short overstays settled properly usually do not. Extended overstays can attract an entry ban recorded on exit, and the risk rises with duration — which is why acting early materially changes the outcome.
My dependants overstayed too. Do they pay separately?
Yes. Each person accrues AED 50 per day independently, so a family of four accrues AED 200 a day. All must be settled before any of them can travel.
